Most specification disputes in bathroom furniture are not about quality. They are about a unit that is correct in every respect except that it does not fit, or fits but cannot be used because a drawer meets a waste pipe. These are all decided on paper, early, and cost nothing to get right at that stage.
Widths cluster around a set of common sizes because basins do, and because a module that suits one bathroom usually suits many. The more consequential number is depth. A deeper unit gives storage and a more generous basin; a shallower one keeps a small bathroom usable. In hospitality and compact residential work, depth is almost always the constraint that matters, and it is worth deciding before anything else because it drives the basin choice as much as the basin drives it.
Where a run of units meets a wall at both ends, ask early how the tolerance is handled — a filler panel, a scribe, or a made-to-measure end unit. Walls are never as square as drawings suggest, and the answer determines whether installation is routine or improvised.
Drawers are more useful than doors in almost every bathroom, and they are where the plumbing conflict shows up. The waste and supply pipework sits exactly where the top drawer wants to be. The usual answers are a U-shaped drawer cut around the trap, a shallower top drawer, or a door to the centre section with drawers to the sides. All of them work; none of them work if the decision is made after production.
Give the manufacturer the actual plumbing positions, not a note saying standard. If the positions are not final, say so and specify the clearance to be left.

Basin height is a decision, not a default, and it is worth making deliberately: the finished height of the basin rim is what the user experiences, so it has to be worked back from the basin, not from the top of the carcass. For hotels, one height across the whole property is a maintenance decision as much as a design one. For accessible rooms it is a requirement with a defined range, and those units should be identified and quoted with the main batch rather than discovered later.
A mirror cabinet specified separately from the vanity is how you end up with two products that do not align. Fix the relationship early: whether the mirror matches the vanity width or the basin centre, where the light sits, and whether power and switching are integrated or supplied by others. Integrated electrical components also need the destination market's requirements confirmed, which is a conversation to have at specification stage.
For anything above a handful of units, a written schedule — one line per unit with width, depth, height, configuration, finish, basin, plumbing positions and quantity — removes almost every ambiguity a manufacturer would otherwise resolve by guessing. Most of the cost of a specification error is discovering it late, and a schedule is what makes it impossible to discover late.
